Here's another printable Leica brochure from my wee collection. This one features the M4-P that was reputedly a cheaper-made version of the original M4, which probably means it's only twice as well made as contemporary cameras.
Not sure about the winder, though. Maybe if it was only half as tall it wouldn't be so bad but it does make a big difference to the size of the camera, doesn't it? Anyway, if you're a Leica fan then enjoy.
Indeed, my (Canadian-made) M4P is still a great Leica M, as well-made and reliable as a German-made. I owned an M6, sold it but carefully kept the M4P along with its (Canadian-made) Summicron 35 mm. And thanks for this tribute ! Jean-François Bonnin

ReplyDeleteFor some years, I used one of those little clamshell leather cases like the one shown on page 10. It fit my M3 with the Leicameter attached; nice little box and well made. But it was restrictive because there was no room for extra film, a notebook, or other goodies that you might need in the field. I reluctantly sold it and shifted to Domke canvas bags, which you can stuff with all sorts of extra goodies. I had that same M-P brochure. I wonder where it is in the house?
ReplyDeleteI currently use two of the M4-P cameras with VC 25mm f4, Leica 40mm f2 & Leica 90mm f4C lenses. I also have the MD-2 viewfinderless varient with a Leica 21mm F3.4 Super Angulon. The M4-P are very good cameras, I’ve used mine constantly since 2007. The MD-2 is used with the 21mm finder and is an amazing camera in cities. It’s also a great travel camera as there is no rangefinder to go out of adjustment.
