    Photographic criticism has changed a lot since Kevin's day. Nowadays it reads like sociology.
    The £1 book he mentions must be the Goldfinger Craftbook for Creative Photography. It used to be available as a PDF download from Silverprint and I was going to give a link.
    It's not there!
    The website has been redesigned and it's easier to use, but no PDF. I tried some other links, but they all seem to refer back to Silverprint. Perhaps there are copyright issues. If you can find a copy, it's well worth reading, even though times and materials have moved on.

    Love MacDonnell's writing, especially the dryly caustic barbs he slips in every now and again.

    I remember the magical Goldfinger price list was the thing myself and fellow photographers pored over. The selenium toner and rag board were particular attractions, not to mention Brovira, Record Rapid, or Portriga papers. Everything in it was very special and exotic.

    Should anyone wish to borrow the Goldfinger book-it's chrome yellow and red with a ring binder spine in A5-I have a copy and should be pleased to lend it. Neeedless to say the materials are rather out of date but it's readable even now./Contact paul.blanchard@virgin.net
