Updated again at 22:55, August 28, to reflect info from Kenny Wood - see comments. Another few amendments will be made tomorrow when I'm feeling more alert. :)
Thanks for all the input re the black and white films. I've amended the table to reflect some of the information. The Lucky films section is incomplete as it's difficult getting the required information about it.
I've added Foma Retropan Soft, the two Orwo films and those from Shanghai and Spur. I've added additional formats for a few films as well.
If you have some information about films, it would be great if you could supply it in the same format that it appears in the table: maker, brand, format and ISO. That would make it a lot easier for me to update the information.
Searching the net for some of the lesser known films in overseas markets is a bit of a nightmare. Also, some films are no longer being made but are still available for the time being so I've included them.

Hi Bruce, Here's a few corrections for the table. Don't know if you want to include other sizes but as a 5x7 film user I included it anyway. It might be helpful for other 5x7 photographers to know, if they don't already.
ReplyDeleteIlford Delta 3200 - 35mm and 120 only. 5x4 sheet film isn't available- source Ilford product catalogue.
Ilford Delta 400 - 35mm and 120 only. 5x4 sheet film isn't available- source Ilford product catalogue.
Ilford Delta 100 - 35mm, 120, 5x4 and 3.5" x 4.75" (9x12cm), 5"x7" (although this one isn't a stock item).
Ilford SFX - 35mm and 120 only. This one's missing from your table.
Ilford XP2 - 35mm and 120 only. 5x4 sheet film isn't available.
Ilford FP4+ - Lots of sheet sizes are available including 5x7 as a non stock item. Many more are special order.
Ilford HP5+ - Lots of sheet sizes are available including 5x7, 7x17 as non stock items. 7x17 is listed as a stock item, however their list might be wrong, don't know! Many more are special order.
Ilford Ortho+ - Many more sheet sizes are special order.
Thanks, Kenny. Very useful info.
ReplyDeleteWhat about agfa films, or is the list only what's available in the EU retail market? Agfa is my GOTO 35mm c41 film.
ReplyDeleteI've got a couple of Agfa films in there, Steve. I'd like to make it a worldwide table if possible but it's not easy knowing what's available elsewhere so I'd be relying heavily on people such as yourself to clue me in. Plus, I think I'll need to add a fifth column to identify the market.
ReplyDeleteHi Bruce,
ReplyDeleteinteresting overview! To complete with a number of films that are available here in France:
- Bergger BRF400 plus / 35mm / 400iso - source: www.labo-argentique.com
- Bergger PANCRO 400 / 5x4, 7x5, 10x8, 18cmX13cm / 400iso - source: www.labo-argentique.com, www.mx2.fr
- Rera Pan 100 / 127 / 100iso - source: www.labo-argentique.com, www.mx2.fr. Actually reconditioned Rollei RPX100, cut to 127 format.
- Kodak TRI-X 320 / 5x4 / 320iso - source: www.caddyphoto.com which lists it as being available.
- Adox CMS 20 II / 35mm / 20iso - source:www.mx2.fr. Not CMS20 but CMS20 II
- Rollei ATO 2.1 / 120, 5x4, 16.5cmX20cm / 15-25iso - source: www.mx2.fr
- Lomography / Earl Grey / 35mm, 120 / 100iso - source: www.mx2.fr
- Lomography / Lady Grey / 35mm, 120 / 400iso - source: www.mx2.fr
- Lomography / Orca / 110 / 100iso - source:www.mx2.fr
- Lomography / Tiger / 110 / 200iso - source:www.mx2.fr
- Adox CHS 100 II also available in 12x9- source: www.mx2.fr
- Rollei RPX 25 also available in 5x4 - source: www.mx2.fr
A correction:
- "Fomapan Reversal" is actually called "Fomapan R100" - source:www.foma.cz
A french photographer is producing films based on Japanese Washi paper, see www.lomig.fr for info.
- Lomig / Film Washi / 35mm, 120, 620, 5x4, 10x8 / 25iso - source: www.lomig.fr, www.mx2.fr
- Lomig / Film Washi X / 35mm / 400iso - source:www.mx2.fr . C41 process
- Lomig / Film Washi Z / 35mm / 400iso - source:www.mx2.fr
Lastly, to improve the readability (at least IMHO), would it be possible to sort the table alphabetically by Manufacturer and Brand, and alternate the color on the brands rather than the even/odd lines?
I don't know how far you want to go with this, but other things you could add to the table: a column for the development process (C41, traditional, E6, ...) IR sensitivity y/n, whether films are also available in bulk (35mmX17m, 35mmX30.5m, from Foma, Agfa, Ilford, Rollei).
Regards,
Gert-Jan
Excellent, Gert-Jan. Thank you. Lots to think about there. I'll try your suggested colour scheme and see how it looks.
ReplyDeleteHere's a few more for the list:
ReplyDeleteKodak Tmax 100 and 400 in 10x8.
Kodak Tri-X 320 4x5. ISO 320. Don't know if it's still available in 120/220.
I see that there's a '*' next to the ISO label at the top of the film speed column. What does it refer to?
ReplyDeleteRoger,
ReplyDeleteThat's a carried over orphan from the first table I published. It was just a reference to the ISOs being the manufacturers' box speed and not necessarily the one you'd want to rate the film at. Thanks for pointing it out.
Hi Bruce,
ReplyDeletefurther to Gert-Jan's comment, Film Washi is available in the Uk in 120 and 5x4 formats from NT Photoworks.
Nikki
Great resource, but it would be nice to expand horizontally and list some of the characteristics of each film (ie. t-grain, or ultra fine grain traditional emulsion). That kind of information used to be published in the photo mags, but obviously they don't care about film anymore, so unless you happen to find a thread about a particular film, most of them are unknown (to me).
ReplyDeleteI agree with KenR, but of course it's quite a bit of work involved.
ReplyDeleteFinding your site very useful. Off to Belrin in a few weeks time and will be picking up a stock of Adox CHS 100 2 120 at Fotoimpex - doing my little bit to support film manufacturers.
